Dear family Burke,
I did not know Solomon Burke, till the moment he started that De Dijk (a famous Dutch band) got the opportunity to sing with Solomon Burke on July 7th, 2007 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.
It was more than beautiful to see how this cooperation grew and grew. They made the album Hold on Tight: wow what a voice! Solomon Burke. I will cherish this album. Thank you.

I was truly shocked to hear that Solomon Burke passed away October 10th, 2010 at Schiphol Amsterdam Airport.
I wish you a lot of strength and beautiful memories of this
warm and special man.
Yours sincerely and warmest regards,
Joanne (a De Dijk and Solomon Burke fan)

Dear Burke family,
I know that you dont know me but i just had to say that Solomon Burke is truly the best soul and R&B singer there ever was. He will be truly missed. You may not remember me but I was at your fathers funeral, in fact my father sat in the pulpit with the rest of the ministers that were there. He is Bishop McKinley. My family knows Kenneth Breax, the brother of solomon. Pastor Breax is truly a blessed Pastor and i believe that he will continue to stay that way. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am sure that you will enjoy reading this as much as i enjoyed typing this. And by the way... I absolutly enjoyed solomon burkes "Dont give up on me" and his rendishion of " Try a little tenderness" by Ottis Reding.

With much love,
David McKinley

We all miss Soloman. Just take a minute to think how many years he produced such wonderful music. Soloman coupled his music with dialoug along with his message. His music not only entertained us, but touched us with emotion & love. Soloman had a complete talent like no other. If you have not listented to much of his music, take the time to go to youtube & watch his songs. There was no artist like this man. Like many American Soul Singers he was much more loved in other countries. In my opinion, Soloman Burke was not appreciated here at home like he was elsewhere. The American music scene is (and always has been) very narrow. Much of it has always had to do with radio station's & their small play lists. As a radio listener from way back, music radio today is over. Ask a young person sometimes "Do you listen to music radio?" 90 percent of the time they will tell you "NO". There are too many options out there today. Too bad Music Radio lost their magic about 10 years ago. And I'll tell you this "It Ain't coming back". You can go from City to City scan the dial and these music stations are all the same. Especially the lame morning shows that play nothing but blocks of commercials , a few songs you are sick of anyway, and what junk was on TV last night. Here's my message. If you love music, especially Soloman Burke. Turn off the radio & go purchace & download his music & other artists that you love & program the song's & artists that are lost. You will be amazed what great music you will discover. My Love to Soloman's family. We will never forget what he gave us. Clifton Wade

I am so saddened by the loss of Soloman's passing. There were so many wonderful comments about Soloman's Message. All I can say is take his message of love & when you go to sleep tonight, say a prayer for how you can make a difference.. We can spread love & kindness. That was Soloman's Message for years. My favorite song was "A Christmas Prayer". It's hard to find. Remember what he was telling us for years. He did it in his music & this man had a "Soul". He had a love for all of us. Take his love & make a difference. Soloman did his best to give us all something to think about. This man was wonderful. We can all learn from what God gave him. Pass on the love & peace.God Bless Houston DJ Johnny Goyen. Johnny played Soloman on many Houston Radio Stations. Other Houston DJ's Gladys "Gee Gee" Hill Chet Mc Dowell, Clifton "King Bee" Smith,Brother George Nelson, Avery Davis Known at KYOK as "Zing Zang" plus Novella Smith.Perry Cain. Skipper Lee & So many more. and all the DJ's at KYOK & KCOH Houston. All of you played Soloman's Songs Daily. I thank each and everyone of you for playing Soloman's Songs. God Bless You All, Vernell...Pass on Soloman's Message

We all Miss Soloman. This man was blessed to give us all a message of love. He totally took his love for all of us & turned into his music. This wonderful man had the talent to take his love for mankind & help us think. Simply go & watch his videos. Listen to his message. This world needs help. The Lord gave Soloman a gift to help us understand how to make a difference in a messed up world. I pray that you will listen to Soloman's Message & spread his love. This man was a Gift from God. Reflect & think about how YOU can take Soloman's message & pass on his love. Think about what I've said & make a difference in this world. We can do it one by one. Love to you Soloman Burke. Solsman's music was wonderful!! His msic never spotted. He went to R&B to country & every music all over the road. Soloman not only connected with many great artists, but Soloman Burke worked with many artists "Worldwide". Soloman was open to all types of music. R&B and Soul was his 60's hits. But Soloman's songs & meessages went far deeper than that. Soloman's "Gift From God" went far beyond his hiits. Soloman had a true gift from God....Spread the message of ""Giving , Love, Kindness, & Make a Difference Any You Can. And belieive me "You Can" make a difference.. It make it small. But TRY!! Talk to your friends and and attempt to wake them up. ...Remember Soloman's Message. "Nothing's Impossible" Please "Wake Up My Ffiends" and Look at "What's Going On"..God Bless You..I Really hope you will take a look! My Love to you all....JOHN

October 27, 2010

Hi My Name is Mike. I was the producer of Johnny Goyen's Radio Show at KFMK 98 FM in Houston in the 80's. Johnny introuced me to Soloman's music . I instantly loved his music. Johnny played all of soloman's music over many years. He was always passionate about Soloman's hit's,but his message as well. Johnny didn't mention only that he was the youngest DJ at KYOK Houston at 15 years old...but he loved & introduced Houston "Top 40" Radio (on many stations) to Soloman's hit's over 30 plus years. Johnny Goyen Told me a very unique story. Back in 1965 at KYOK 1590 AM in Houston. When Johnny was "On Air" at KYOK There was a glass widow in front of the control room. When kid's got off school..Kid's would get off school and come to KYOK at 613 Preston Ave. Watch the DJ and dance to music. Johnny told me back in the mid 60's He began to play "Everybody Needs Someone to Love". Johnny said the kid's were so excited with the song Johnny played it over & over at least 4 or 5 times "In A Row". How Great!! I just wanted you to know over the years I'll always love the music & message of Soloman Burke. Johnny Goyen said it best "Listen To Soloman's Message" Spread his message of LOVE and understanding & how each of us can make a difference in our own unique way. Remember "Nothing's Impossible". Love, Mike

October 24, 2010

As a kid I loved Solomans music. I bought all his 45's and Lp's too! At the age of 15 I became Houston's youngest DJ at legendary KYOK 1590 Houstons R& B Giant. I played tons of Solomans songs. I never met him personally. Thanks to Lady J at KAZI in Austin Tx. I had the chance to talk to Soloman by phone 6 months back. A wonderful man with a true message of love for humanity. We should all take a look at Soloman's message & pass on his love & compassion for mankind. This gentleman left us much to learn. Listen to his music & spread his message of LOVE. God Bless Solomon!!! I had to wipe away the tears when I heard that Solomon had died. He was bigger that life. I saw his performance on Sunday morning of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2008. It was one of the most emotional performances I have ever seen. What was most special about that day is Solomon signed CDs and talked with every fan that lined up. He spent a special moment with everyone he met. I told him how much I loved his music and message. I embraced Solomon with a half hug (which was hard to do). He was such a GOOD MAN!!! He loved his very large family very much as he told us during his performance. I have been listening to his greatest hits and Like a Fire over the past few days and tear up. We will all miss Solomon dearly. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and many friends. God has a truly great spirit in Heaven now!!!

I am a Rock & Roll/Country music guy. Solomon was the one guy to get me out of my little world of music and recognize other music such as Soul and Blues, and Spiritual tones in lyrics and music. He taught me to sing what I feel. I now sing a country song the way Solomon would sing a country song. I am a better man, better singer because of this man. I never met Solomon . . . but I feel he reach down to me when I was in a 10' deep pit and pulled me up to the the good music.

He is Acts Chapter 4 to us all. Thanks Good Buddy!

A great loss.

I definitely won't forget the first time I saw Solomon, in one of the big tents at the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia, 2004, it was one of the most joyous concerts I've been to. Definitely some rock, but the there was just so so much Soul - everyone leaving after the gig had a broad smile. RIP.

My memories of his visits to Manchester, Nottingham and London with remain strong and precious and I thank you Dear Solomon for the legacy you have left, your spirit remains in your music.

Family, I'll always treasure the work and music of our dear King Solomon Burke, especially my song Cry to me, which could indicate crying to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
May God keep it Well for you all
